I am interested in portraiture as a medium to reflect on the realm of perceived social space between spectator and subject. The use of painting and drawing in my work is characterized by layers of transparency that illustrate expressive gestures as bodily, pictorial forms of consciousness, while line and form is further used to expose a dialectic between depth and flatness within a 2-dimensional space. Pulling from historical notions of beauty and photographic sources within the context of art and life, I frame my portraits around the human condition with an undercurrent of desire and empathy.
